MORAL FOUNDATION FOR ETHICAL BUSINESS

Figure 01

Ethics is a discipline of philosophy concerned with morality—what it means to act properly and how people can accomplish this objective. It can also refer to a collection of moral ideas and practices that apply to a specific sector. Business, medicine, teaching, and, of course, scientific research all have ethics. As the above example indicates, the scientific study can raise a variety of ethical difficulties, particularly when human subjects are involved. When it comes to running a corporation, the difference between right and wrong is determined by the use of violence or deception. As a result, humans use to decide what is ethically right and evil. Aggression, injustice, impoliteness, and bullying are all examples of upsetting or offensive workplace behaviors that can lead to a variety of issues.

Various theories support the success of businesses through ethical conduct. Another unique idea that may be used to cultivate ethics is the moral basis theory, which leads to ethical corporate management to fulfill business objectives. Moral foundations theory is a social psychological theory that was developed to explain differences in moral thinking among humans. Jonathan Haidt and Jesse Graham, two psychologists, were the first to propose it. According to moral basis theory, there are five basic moral foundations:

Figure 02

· Care/Harm:

This basis originates from our long evolution as mammals with attachment systems and the ability to feel (and loathe) other people's sorrow. Kindness, tenderness, and nurturance are all virtues that stem from it.

· Fairness:

This has something to do with reciprocal altruism's evolutionary process. It develops concepts of justice, rights, and self-determination. The majority of people are kind and considerate of others. It feels unjust or dishonest when someone helps or is friendly to someone only partially. It should be fair to everyone when introducing a system or practice. Fairness, trust, and trustworthiness elicit strong emotions in people. As a result, anyone could justify the procedures and decisions. There is a link between justice and fairness. The concept of fair practices will be beneficial to corporate performance because it will enhance employee morale

· Loyalty:

This basis stems from our long history as tribal beings capable of forming revolving alliances. It lurks beneath the qualities of patriotism and self-sacrifice for the greater good. It is active whenever individuals believe that "one for all, and all for one" is true.· Authority: Belonging to your group, family, or country; the polar opposite of treachery

· Sanctity:

The psychology of distaste and contamination shaped the cornerstone of this structure. It sits at the heart of religious ideals of wanting to live a more exalted, less carnal, and noble life. It is at the root of the widely held belief that the body is a temple that can be desecrated by immoral behaviors and impurities (an idea not unique to religious traditions).

 · Authority:

The lengthy history of hierarchical social interactions among primates shaped this basis. It underpins leadership and followership values such as respect for legitimate authority and tradition.

Care, Fairness, Loyalty, Authority, and Sanctity are useful in ensuring corporate performance and connecting with the business world, as well as encouraging employees. When an organization follows the Moral Framework, it establishes a foundation for trust, collaboration, and action commitment. As a result, while strengthening ethical practices in an organization, business ethics aid in the retention of top talent, the reduction of risk, the enhancement of reputation, and the attainment of business objectives.

Conclusion

Better strategies to normalize company performance while facing problems include transforming the business into an ethical business, converting workplace procedures into workplace ethical practices, and promoting ethics among employees.
